elevate: Winthrop Center

Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.

Winthrop Center in Boston stands as the world's largest Passive House-certified office building, a groundbreaking achievement in energy-efficient design. With the guidance of leading architects and experts, Millennium Partners conceptualized the building to reduce operational emissions by incorporating innovative energy-saving solutions. Holcim contributed to this project with its high-performance Elevate™ ISOGARD™ polyiso insulation and UltraPly™ TPO SA membrane, ensuring superior thermal efficiency and protection from harsh weather conditions.

By applying Passive House principles across its design, Winthrop Center achieved 65% less energy use than a typical office building in Boston. Holcim’s insulation technology provides up to 40% better thermal performance, even in cold weather, contributing to the building’s air-tight exterior and low-carbon status. The result is an energy-efficient, healthy, and comfortable environment for its occupants, setting a new benchmark for sustainable buildings in cold climates.

Elevate: Air Force Visitor Center

Colorado Springs, Colorado, U.S.A.

Set against the stunning backdrop of the Colorado Rockies, the new Air Force Visitor Center embodies innovation and bold design. Inspired by the sleek form of a B-2 bomber, the center is more than an architectural marvel; it is a testament to sustainable and functional roofing solutions. To meet the demands of this ambitious project, Douglass Colony Group installed an Elevate UltraPly™ TPO system, chosen for its exceptional durability and performance in Colorado’s harsh winter climate.

The roof’s complex design required precision to ensure proper drainage and watertight installation while meeting the building’s aesthetic goals. Innovative techniques, like using hotboxes to maintain optimal material temperatures during winter construction, enabled the team to overcome freezing conditions. This project showcases the power of resilient, energy-efficient materials and the commitment of the Douglass Colony Group to excellence in roofing design.
